I know many people don't even read perfect score reviews because they all say the same thing, "it's perfect. X3 Terran Conflict 2. It's hard to know where to begin, and I sure can't cover it all in this review. I'll start by describing myself. Not consecutive plays, but actually a year or two between plays.

Starting this game over is not a decision to be taken lightly because of how many hours you wasted before realizing you might have to. I started over many more times than that. The other times were just after a few minutes or less than an hour of play, so I don't count those. TC is a long game.

In fact, I'm not sure if it ever ends. One can complete the scripted missions without achieving ultimate victory over the Kha'ak. More on that laater. A couple of times, after many hours of play, I bailed on it because I wasn't happy with my progress. Although reverting to any of the previous 10 savepoints is easy, that is not always far enough back to help you out of a bad spot. Then just starting over, or quitting for good, are the only viable options.

One thing that's unique about TC is that it's the only single-player game I know of that countinues to play itself when minimized Alt-Tab. This feature is off by default, but you can select it any time from the game options.

It's called 'Run In Background'. Set yourself up to automatically trade goods and you can speed up time then minimize the game and you'll become wealthy much faster. That said, I never do it because I like to move on and start the scripted missions while my wealth is building up.

It quickly becomes a micro-management task marathon. TC is the type of game where you need to take notes as you play. It's an extreme memory challenge. I can't imagine trying to catch up with events that occurred while I was away.

I currently use Win7, bit, with a GTX video card, and that works fine. First, before playing, be sure to update with patch v3. Still, many people have reported a 'bug' when they can't find 25MJ shields for hauler-class ships that most players will likely use. Without the correct shields, your freighters will take damage from incidents with Pirates or just the minor collisions that occur while going about their business.

Once damaged their maximum speed slows to a crawl and using them for hauling goods, their primary purpose, becomes impossible. Furthermore, repairing ships is expensive and takes a long time for them to crawl to a repair dock.

This bug being reported is really just a paradox. It occurs when the only place to buy 25MJ shields is from The Paranid or The Split species who you can't trade with until your reputation is raised.

And you can't raise your trade reputation without hauling the large volume goods that can only be carried by haulers and freighters. The answer to this, that few seem to know, is finding abandoned haulers and cannibalizing them for their shields. There are two or three hauler-class ships adrift that you can claim as yours if you can find them. These ships are of little value to use in the game, but you can sell them at any shipyard after transferring their shields to your ship.
